Hello everyone, Welcome back to the “Should You Pull” series— Providing you new banner and unit analysis, as well as scouting recommendations!
Note: These reviews are subjective and based solely on the opinions of the author. They are by no means guides that you must follow, so feel free to agree or disagree and share your own opinions; The primarily goal of these is to discuss current banners and new units with the community, and to provide additional insight from veteran players for those that would like it.
Today’s piece will cover the new [A New Beginning] Kirito and [A Thousand Years With You] Asuna units.
[A New Beginning] Kirito
Element – Earth
Weapon – Dual Sword
Kit – [C] [A] [A]
Physical Attack: 2340
[A New Beginning] Kirito now has the highest attack stat among all Earth-elemental units, with the next two units being [Descended Goddess of Creation] Asuna (2305) and [Piercing Sun Goddess] Sinon (2295). For comparison purposes, he also has the fourth highest attack stat in the game, which is currently a title held by the new [Serene Shooting Star] Asuna (2410, Light). All things considered, this will result in EM-level damage output, which marks him as the top DPS unit for Earth elemental team compositions.
Other notes on base stats:
The rest of the base stats for [A New Beginning] Kirito are pretty average and in-line with other recently released units. He has slightly above-average HP (6120), average MP (230) slightly below-average DEF and MDEF (1140 and 1116 respectively), average CRIT (660), and low mid-range speed (308). Nothing too important here, though he might feel a bit slow in some situations.
End Revolver C*
Slash attack (strong) on single enemy. Lowers Physical Res. by 20% for 1 turn. Incarnate Charge 20.00*%
Double Circular A*
Slash attack (extra strong) on a single enemy. Deals added damage on enemies inflicted with Physical Res. or Magic Res. debuff. Incarnate Charge 10.00%
Dual Liberation A*
Slash attack (strong*) on a single enemy. Damage increases when recollection field gauge (earth) is step 3 or more. Incarnate break 25.00%
Note: End Revolver C* Skill becomes 21.50% charge at Skill Lv.3. Dual Liberation A* becomes (extra strong) at Skill Lv.2.
All Elemental Rush Incarnate Skill
Incarnate Slash attack on a single enemy. Additional slash attack on all enemies. Deals additional damage on enemies inflicted with a physical res. or magic res. debuff.
Additional Comments: Kirito is unfortunately a pretty standard DPS unit who doesn’t offer any additional utility. Thankfully though, he is an extremely hard-hitting unit; His main ASSAULT Skill gets the additional Res. Down modifier, and his Incarnate Skill hits for insane amounts of damage thanks to having both the Res. Down modifier and an additional AOE attack on all enemies. He is the first unit to have this attack order inverted on his Incarnate, allowing him to deal regular ST-level damage on it’s first hit. Sadly though, his second ASSAULT skill is mostly useless from a damage standpoint in the current meta, as it is extremely difficult to build up a Step 3 RF gauge for the Earth element. Having additional Incarnate break is nice, but is a very niche use considering how easy it is to break bosses currently.
[A Thousand Years With You] Asuna
Element – Earth
Weapon – Rapier
Kit – [H] [A] [E]
Notes on base stats:
As a non-DPS-focused unit, there isn’t any reason to highlight a specific stat of Asuna’s, so let’s just get straight into the general overview. [A Thousand Years With You] Asuna, like Kirito, has pretty standard base stats aside from her speed. She has below-average HP (5760), average MP (236), above-average ATK (2280), slightly below-average DEF and MDEF (1176 for both), below-average CRIT (612), and high SPD (319). Considering her unit-type, these stats are about what you would expect. Yell units typically have lower-end HP and CRIT, while at the same time having higher SPD.
Heal Durability Area
Recovers HP of all allies, including reserve characters (front line: medium, reserve: weak)
Skill Connect Quadruple Paid Field A+
Thrust attack (extra strong) on a single enemy. Recollection field (earth) +1.
Charge & Critical Yell
Raises Incarnate Charge of a single ally by x2.25* for 1 turn. Raises Critical Damage by 10% for 2 turns.
Note: The Charge & Critical Yell Skill becomes x2.5 Charge at Lv.2 and adds Short-wait time at Lv.3.
Stellar Recreation Incarnate Skill
Incarnate thrust attack on all enemies. Raises physical res. of all allies by 20% for 3 turns. Raises critical damage by 10% for 2 turns.
Additional Comments: While not wanting to “hype” up a unit too much, Asuna is, at the same time, arguably the first legitimately over-powered unit this game has seen. Her Heal Skill including reserve units is insanely powerful by default, let alone the fact that it heals for almost 4k (even higher in certain circumstances). Her ASSAULT Skill hits surprisingly hard and gives +1 to the Recollection field; Making her one of only four Earth-elemental units to effect the Recollection gauge. Having Critical Damage on her Charge Yell Skill gives her the same bonus that has allowed Sheyta to be called the top CY unit up until this point. And to top it all off, not only does her Incarnate Skill have the double buff of AOE Phys. Res (20%) and Critical Damage (10%), but it deals ST-level damage despite being an AOE attack.
When should you consider pulling for Kirito and Asuna?
- If you want to have a top-of-the-line Earth-elemental team, since Asuna is a must-have utility unit and Kirito offers extremely high DPS.
- If you lack Earth-elemental characters, since they can both act as additional high-DPS options for your team composition.
- If you lack a Modern Charge Yeller like Sheyta, since Asuna also offers the Critical Damage buff on her Enhance Skill.
- If you lack chargers, since Kirito now sits as the highest DPS charge unit, and can provide EM-level Incarnate charge with Imaginarium.
- If you have the additional resources and want to improve your existing Earth-elemental team.
- If you really like their characters, since these are the first Moon Cradle units, or are trying to collect all Kirito/Asuna units.
Should I pull?
I do honestly think that this banner is a must-pull, with the chase unit undoubtedly being [A Thousand Years With You] Asuna. In addition to the above-listed points, they are the first Earth-elemental units to offer the new Leader and Member skills that provide a 5% and 1% buff to your entire party’s ATK respectively (having at least one unit with the Leader skill on each elemental team is vital moving forward), and Kirito is a requirement when it comes to activating Special Partner bonus attacks with Earth team compositions, since he can partner with multiple different on-element Asuna units.
My personal opinion is that this banner is definitely worth scouting on if you have cubes left to spend from the new character missions or elsewhere. Even if you need to go to Step 5 or Step 7 to pull these units, I would still consider it a worthwhile investment, especially if you are coming out with [A Thousand Years With You] Asuna. For those players who only want the strongest units, it might be best to skip the main banner for now and instead go for Asuna on her pick-up that is coming on December 5th.
What about just doing the first discount pull?
With all of the cubes players are receiving right now thanks to the anniversary campaign, and the fact that both of these new units will be integral parts of any Earth-elemental team composition at this point in the game, you should unquestionably be doing at least one step, if not the first three. For only 125 cubes, pulling even just a single duplicate ★4 makes it generally worth the investment.
Any advice regarding weapon banners?
Discounted weapon banners are 100% worth pulling on, almost every single time. They only cost 75 Diamond Cubes, and pulling even just a single off-banner ★4 makes them worth the investment thanks to their being usable by any unit of that weapon type. Additionally, weapons starting with the first Anniversary units now have a 12% passive buff to ATK/MATK instead of the previous 9% when not MLB, so they will automatically be stronger than pretty much all of the previous ones.
The bottom line basically boils down to this: These units are both practically requirements for the Earth element. Kirito for his Special Partner bonus attack, and Asuna for her Charge Yell capabilities. [A New Beginning] Kirito is a strong DPS with a hugely powerful Incarnate Skill, but has a lackluster 2nd ASSAULT Skill and doesn’t provide any additional utility at all. [A Thousand Years With You] Asuna is arguably the most universal and well-rounded utility unit in the game, with only [Goddess of Earth] Leafa coming even remotely close in this aspect alone. Asuna, on top of everything, has the first-ever Reserve Heal skill, making her the best all-around Healer in the game, and also provides damage output on the level of DPS-focused units when facing Water-elemental enemies.
There is a possibility of another earth unit being released next week, so for patient players it might be smartest to wait and see what happens there. But considering this is the final 1st Anniversary banner, and the fact that there certainly won’t be another unit similar to Asuna being released anytime soon, there is no downside to going in for these two units.
