Hello everyone, Welcome back to the SYP “Should You Pull” series—
We provide you with new banner and unit analysis, as well as scouting recommendations!
Note: These reviews are subjective and based solely on the opinions of the author. They are by no means guides that you are required to follow, so feel free to agree or disagree and share your own opinions; The primary goal of these is to discuss new units with the community, and to provide additional insight from veteran players to those that would like it.
Today’s piece will cover the new [Memories of the Abyss] Eydis unit.

Comments on Base Stats
[Memories of the Abyss] Eydis has a base ATK of (2300), which is slightly below-average when it comes to modern unit releases, but is still on the higher-end when compared against all available characters, especially those who are Dark-elemental. This means that her skills will still be some of the highest DPS for the element. In addition to this, the rest of her statline is either high or above-average in all areas. Eydis has very high HP (6720), high DEF and MDEF (1236, 1224 respectively), and average SPD (310). Overall, her stats are very strong and definitely some of the best when it comes to Dark characters.
Comments on Kit
On the surface, [Memories of the Abyss] Eydis is just a regular DPS unit with a partially-new ability but otherwise nothing special that would make her stand out. This is still technically true, but having taken the time to test her prior to writing this, there’s more to her super-strong Total Continuous Damage than you’d think that makes her a must-pull for Dark-elemental teams. I will have a dedicated article up on that later today, but I’ll provide the short version in the additional comments section below. TLDR; The ability is broken.
The rest of Eydis’ kit is, in-fact, relatively average. She offers +1 to Recollection Field (Dark) on her BREAK Skill which is helpful, but her ASSAULT Skill is simply raw damage. Her Incarnate Skill is also very strong though, topping out above 500K with max buffs at Lv.120. Her primary two skills deal 30% of self damage upon use, but Eydis will immediately refill the health lost and more when attacked by the boss, so this handicap is nothing to worry about. There really isn’t much more to say here, so let’s move on.
Here’s the short and less-detailed explanation of Total Continuous Damage. The way it works is that, over the course of a battle, every time Eydis uses an ability that would inflict this Cont. damage while the status effect hasn’t worn off, it “stacks”. The initial and base values of this status effect vary depending on her final attack statistic, but stacking over time means that the boss takes massive DOT damage near the end of a fight. The combination of this and her otherwise already top-of-dark-element damage actually makes her the strongest DPS unit in the game when you calculate based on “total damage output” over a full battle. The rest of her skills and overall kit might be plain, but her goal is very obviously damage and she more than excels in this area.
When should you consider pulling for Eydis?
- If you lack Dark-elemental characters, since Eydis is now the strongest DPS unit for Dark-elemental teams.
- If you lack Dark-elemental breakers, since she is not only the best in this category, but her BREAK also offers Recollection Field for added utility.
- If you have additional resources to use on her, since she will last for an extremely long time in her respective element and will also likely have off-elemental potential thanks to the new Total Continuous Damage skill.
- If you want to min-max your Score on the current Ranking Event, since new units offer additional Incarnate Charge at the beginning of a run and Eydis’ Cont. damage ability is a requirement this time around when it comes to competing for the top ranks.
- If you really like Eydis or the artwork that comes along with her, since she offers an entirely new design that is unlikely to return on any future units.
“Should You Pull?” Final Thoughts
Being able to write this with the foresight of the next banner since they are releasing it earlier than expected, I can confidently say that [Memories of the Abyss] Eydis is as close to a must-pull as you can get without her being a limited unit. She isn’t herself what you would call an “OP” unit, but her Total Continuous Damage skill is, frankly, broken. It’s damage output is so massive and unbalanced that she can double your Dark-elemental score by herself. [Holding Hands With You] Asuna has strong utility, but isn’t enough of an upgrade over [Captive Princess] Asuna to make her a requirement. This being the case, Eydis is easily the better choice and worth going in for, considering the fact that they are seemingly not releasing new Limited units for the time being.
What about just doing the first discount pull?
The discount summon for this banner is unquestionably worth it. Eydis’ damage output is just too high in comparison to previous Dark-elemental units and all units in general after you factor in her Continuous Damage that she will be a staple for her element over the foreseeable future.
Any advice regarding weapon banners?
This weapon release isn’t particularly strong in comparison to other recent ones, so while pulling even just a single off-banner ★4 generally makes the discount worth the investment, recent cube reductions might make it smarter to skip for the time being if you have enough Dark-elemental swords already. As always, weapons starting with the first Anniversary units now have a 12% passive buff to ATK/MATK instead of the previous 9% when not MLB, so they will automatically be stronger than earlier weapons and might be enticing if you don’t already have other post-Anniv. weapons.
